The first of two ‘Working Collaboratively to Sustain Housing’ training sessions – held as a joint session for community housing providers and support provider staff – was held in Mandurah.

A local mix of both housing and support providers learnt collaboratively from each other as they developed their solutions to keep people housed. Representatives from Calvary Youth, St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, WestAus Crisis & Welfare Services and Housing Choices WA attended.

Session Guidance

Guiding the session was Leah Watkins from Housing Choices WA where she is responsible for ensuring tenant voices are heard and used to influence service delivery. She walked participants through the two gold standard approaches, Housing First for people moving from rough sleeping to permanent housing and Supportive Landlord a range of activities and strategies that can comprise a supportive landlord approach. Each strategy was tailored to the unique service delivery of the participants.

“I did run a session once for housing providers, but it’s so much more effective with both housing and support providers in the room,” Leah said. “The collaborative aspect means there is so much leaning to be gained from both sides.”

Next Session

The next ‘Working Collaboratively to Sustain Housing’ training session will be held in Perth on Tuesday, July 11 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. It is a face-to-face session only, held at Level 3, The Platform 256 Adelaide Terrace Perth.
